Carrying after a section

"Can I babywear after a section?" It's a common question I hear as many think it's not possible.

🤔When you have a section, you are told to rest and not lift anything for weeks....but you have a baby.

👉While recovering, you still need to bend, lift, twist and hold a newborn. While feeding, making feeds, changing nappies and rocking baby.

😁Using a sling or carrier for short periods through the day can actually be helpful after a section. Having baby on your chest supported will use less muscles than holding in arms, learning to feed using the sling will also give you more support.

👍 If you do decide to carry soon after baby, then build it up slowly, listen to your body. You can even use a sling while sitting down and benefit from skin to skin time which has huge benefits postnatally.

So yes, you can carry after a section but every body is different, so first check a few things.

👉 Are you feeling up to it? Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

👉 Did you or baby have any medical complications? If so, then it may not be suitable? Get in touch to discuss if needed.

🌟My top three slings for carrying after a section are...

👉 2 way stretchy - soft, moldable

and can offer more support across your body post birth.

👉 Ring sling - simple one layer carry, no pressure on your wound.

👉 Woven wrap - versatile, offers more support to distribute the weight.
